The Kind of Mother I Want to Be
As you will soon discover, this blog is about my journey to motherhood. And as that journey was a complex and long one, I find myself now navigating the waters of coming to terms with this extreme journey and being a regular mom to my unsuspecting brood.
So maybe a fitting post on this blog would be about the kind of mother I want to be. I need to remind myself that whereas who I am as a mother is greatly affected by my journey, to my kids, I’m just Mom, and that’s what they need me to be.
I want to be loving and supportive. I want to be fun and playful. I want to be comforting and trustworthy. I want to be serious, but light. I want to teach them about life, but also about living it. I want to share with them and share them with family. I want to give them the world, and I want to enjoy my journey as “just mom” after living for so long in “the difficult journey to motherhood.”
But how do I translate that into everyday life? I always thought I would be the health conscious and disciplining mother. But I just gave some juice to my little girl when she was having a bit of an off day. That’s the kind of mother I’m becoming – attuned to my child, flexible and caring.
So – what kind of mom do you want to be?
